  • 1.  migration from ospf to ospf3

    Hello everyone,

recently Ive been thinking about migrating from our current ospf (for v4) and ospfv3 (for v6) to only ospf3 (for v4 and v6) using realms. I labbed this and have 2 questions:

1- we use mpls/ldp/rsvp over ospf at this time which means we are using traffic-engineering options under protocol ospf. when I tried this with ospf3, the config required "shortcuts" option to be added in there. when adding that option, rsvp still remains down with all labels down. I see my routes and everything however labels remain down. is there a particular command to add for this situation?

2- since this migration needs to be done in stages, what is the best or recommended way to migrate from ospf to ospfv3? in my lab I see that routes are not distributed between ospf and ospf3. Im pretty sure this is by design but would like to have someone confirm that. also if thats the case, is route redistribution between ospf and ospf3 recommended? why yes, why not?

    Any suggestion is appreciated!

    Thanks

I do believe there's some limitation with ospf3 realm ipv4 as IGP for MPLS (RSVP  or LDP).

    https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/topics/topic-map/ospf-traffic-engineering.html

From the experience I personally have, not seen any major ISP deploying ospf3 on their mpls backbone

For the route leaking, you need to have bi-directional export policy to exchange route between ospf and ospf3 realm v4. This is not done by default

    mhu,

Thank you for your answer. I read the article you provided However its still not very clear whats needed for rsvp to function properly on ospf3. What limittations are you referring you?

I noticed my TED is completely empty eventhough I used traffic-engineering under ospf3.

Thanks for confirming the ospf to ospf3 routing questions 🙂

Seems not supported. Let's see if anyone has ever used and provide some information against my knowledge
