Branch SRX as a DHCPv6 prefix delegation client?

‎07-18-2011 08:16 AM

Hi all,

I want to setup a brach SRX as a DHCPv6 prefix delegation client.

I only able to found the SRX document about how to configure as a prefix delegation server, but not client.

I found the configuration example of screen OS as prefix delegation client. I tried the translation tool but failed.

Did anyone know is that feature supported by SRX (or JUNOS device) now?

Cheers

Fai

Hi zerofai,

Unfortunately not.  I find this VERY frustrating considering Juniper are championing IPv6 migration.  I've heard ridiculous dates of 2013 for this type of support to be included.

Cisco 8xx series can do this, as well as certain D-Link, Fritzbox, Billion, Netcomm and Linksys models.

Speak to your SE and make some noise about the lack of these features.

Thanks Dfex, That is ridiculous if that feature is not supported in Branch SRX but ScreenOS device. I will try to find some Juniper SE to talk with. Thanks!

I would, along with my comapnies customers and many Australians, would love the SRX to get DHCPv6 PD support, especially over PPPoE interfaces, as Australia has Internode (http://www.on.net) offering native static IPv6 ranges for the taking !

My SSG5 can do it, but my SRX can not Smiley Sad.

Hi All,

I would just like to add my +1 for this feature. I've just upgraded to an SRX210 from my old SSG20 but now I can no longer use IPv6! I too am with internode in Australia.

Any update on this? It has been 6 months since this feature was requested.

In fact I believe this feature should have been included from the start!

We still cannot use IPv6 with Juniper.

Still waiting.

The SRX range of firewalls clearly do not support IPv6 correctly.......

Juniper you guys are lame.

Hi,

Any word on Juniper supporting DHCPv6?  My ISP is running a trial native ipv6 dual stack and are using DHCPv6 to asign prefix + /64 nets...

I would like to continue to use my netscreen/SRX f/w...

Thanks,

J

From relaese notes of 11.4R4 & 12.1  , SRX  deos support DHCPv6 but it dosnot support DHCPV6 authentication . authentication is not mandatory with DHCPV6

From release notes : SRX Series and J Series devices do not support DHCPv6 client authentication

but i don't see anything regarding dhcpv6 client with regards to prefix delegation.  i can only find examples of dhcpv6 server configurations.

Currently DHCPV6 client is not supported on branch SRX, But their is a RLI 17269 for this, This feature can be tracked via this RLI.

Thanks.

Sweet, that's good to know.

However. What's an RLI?

I see them mentioned in quite a few places, even official Juniper documentation.

The KB article "is in review and not yet ready for viewing" though.

I can't find anything that looks like "RLI" in my support account either.

I too would be interested to know when 13.1 will be out.

We've only had 11.4 and 12.1 for the SRX this year.

I'm kind of hoping 13.1 comes out for the SRX early next year as this IPv6 issue has been going on far too long.

No that will be in the first part of 2013 between the first and the 4 month. Juniper Is releasing major releases like 13.1RXX

13.2RXX etc three times a year

Not this year! 12.1 is the latest release for the SRX. If juniper did three releases we would have 12.3 for the srx.
