HSRP Feeds from ISP to clustered SRX 240 pair

[ Edited ]

I have a pair of SRX240's setup as a cluster... and my ISP has setup 2 HSRP and given me 2 HSRP IP's, as near as I can tell this isn't what I need.

Can I make it work, or do I need to ask the ISP for something else?  I have searched around a bit but have not really found an answer.  I'm NOT trying to do Active/Active, as that would result in double billing anyways.

Thanks

Mark

It sounds like your ISP has setup HSRP in load balancing configuration instead of the fault tolerant configuration.

Let them know you are looking for a fault tolerant single gateway.

Does that imply there's no way to do HSRP with the dual IP setup on a redundant Juniper?

Are there any other options.

Sorry for the lack of clarity.

Basically HSRP load balancing with dual IP would be the method to setup an Active/Active cluster in SRX.

HSRP fault tolerant gateway is what you use with an Active/Passive cluster.

With Active/Passive only one device is on at a time and they both will route out to the same default gateway ip address.  The HSRP fault tolerant gateway keeps that gateway up even if one router fails.

With Active/Active setups one RG is active on SRX1 and passive on SRX2 while a second RG is passive on SRX1 and active on SRX2 at the same time.  Each RG has their own ip address for the gateway to use and balance the traffic.  This prevents a single gateway with a single RG from forcing all traffic out the single SRX instead of using both devices fully.

You just need to match the technologies and use the right tool for the job.

What is the right tool for the job then? We are experincing the same issues. We have SRX340 and the DataCenter uplinks are seeing active/active issues. How do you go about fixing this?

There is a configuration example for the current SRX versions in the 2019 Junos Cookbook

Connecting an SRX Cluster to a VRRP Router
