  • 1.  High CPU usage on SRX240

    Posted 05-30-2013 08:46

I have recently noticed that my SRX240 is using 100% of the CPU (according to Cacti) and has been doing so since the day I plugged it in (May last year).

Obviously I'm concerned by this, but how can I track down what's causing it?

    Thanks
    Andrew.

    EDIT:

running show chassis routing-engine gives me

     CPU utilization:
          User                      57 percent
          Background                 0 percent
          Kernel                    43 percent
          Interrupt                  0 percent
          Idle                       0 percent

This KB article may help a bit:

    http://kb.juniper.net/InfoCenter/index?page=content&id=KB14743

From the output is does look like the control plane is pretty busy, a "show system processes summary" will be a start to find which process(es) are using up the CPU, note that 'flowd_octeon_hm' will always look like it's eating a lot of CPU.  You can of course always use the 'extensive' version of the command as well rather than the 'summary'.

It looks like the httpd is running very high. I don't use the web interface, if I disable it in the config will it just stop the process?

I actually saw something like this on a 650, I don't use the web management but someone else did.  In that case a 'restart web-management' resolved the issue.  If no one uses it, I suppose it may be a good idea to disable web management in the config.

This seems to have helped. Thanks.

    Hi All,

I'm seeing the same on my SRX240 and tried to restart the web-management, but problem persists. Below is the output I get after restarting the web.

PID USERNAME   THR PRI NICE   SIZE    RES STATE  C   TIME   WCPU COMMAND
     1168 root         7  76    0   490M 49048K select 0 897.3H 281.10% flowd_octeon_hm
     1194 nobody       2 139    0 10036K  4632K RUN    0 115.0H 84.96% httpd
    79129 nobody       1 127    0  9256K  3988K select 0   0:02  2.98% httpd

After a while, PID 79129 is not showing anymore. Hence, is there another way to clear PID 1194 without rebooting the whole SRX240?

    Thank you.

    Hello

I prefer to do all operation using Junos, but if you are sure what you are going to do , you can start shell mode , using "start shell" operational command , and kill the process using UNIX command : kill <process_pid>
