Logical Tunnel Interface (lt) in SRX

‎11-07-2011 08:33 AM

I read about "lt" interfaces in this link:

http://kb.juniper.net/InfoCenter/index?page=content&id=KB21260

but when I tried to implement it as the example indicated, it complained about "encapsulation ethernet " part. I am wondering if that is not suppported in the high end SRX ( SRX3400)? and if so, what is the work around?

Thanks

hi,

Please show the configuration snippet, the error message you get and Junos versions. It's a Good Thing (TM).

AFAIK logical tunnels are supported on high end SRX.

JUNOS Software Release [10.4R7.5]

I was implementing the same example as it is in the link up. and when I wanted to configure the encapsulation part , I don't see the encapsulation option:

admin@fw1# set interfaces lt-0/0/0 unit 1 peer-unit 2 ?
Possible completions:
<[Enter]> Execute this command
accounting-profile Accounting profile name
+ apply-groups Groups from which to inherit configuration data
+ apply-groups-except Don't inherit configuration data from these groups
bandwidth Logical unit bandwidth (informational only)
description Text description of interface
disable Disable this logical interface
dlci Frame Relay data-link control identifier (1..1022)
> family Protocol family
mtu Maximum transmission unit packet size (256..9192)
no-traps Don't enable SNMP notifications on state changes
peer-unit Peer unit number (0..16385)
point-to-point Point-to-point connection
traps Enable SNMP notifications on state changes
> tunnel Tunnel parameters
vlan-id Virtual LAN identifier value for 802.1q VLAN tags (0..4094)
| Pipe through a command

When I forced it and i did commit check, I got this:

admin@fw1# commit check
[edit interfaces lt-0/0/0]
'unit 1'
encapsulation needs to be configured for logical tunnel interface
error: configuration check-out failed

[edit]

even though, I have that:

admin@fw1# show | compare
[edit interfaces]
+ lt-0/0/0 {
+ unit 1 {
+ encapsulation ethernet;
+ peer-unit 2;
+ }
+ }

Anything need to be enabled first maybe? i didn't have that problem with SRX210... Any ideas?

Thanks

hi,

a while ago I tried to verify if/since which Junos version SRX supports logical tunnel interfaces. Could not find any good document to verify lt support.

No high end SRX here, no answer to your question. Just idea - logical system are supported with high end SRX since 11.2 and lt interfaces are mentioned explicitly in the release notes. Could you check 11.2 ?

On the high-end SRX, lt-0/0/0.x interfaces are used for the interconnect between LSYS in 11.2+ (from an LSYS to LSYS0); other than LSYS interconnect, they have no supported use on the high-end SRX at this time.
