SFP options for SRX ( and in fact all Juniper Devices )

‎05-15-2009 02:25 AM

I want to use a CWDM system from Finisar. ( www.finisar.com ) That will require the use of a number of so called 'colored' SFP's.  This is not somethign that i can find on the Juniper price list. :-)

Does anyone know if you can use third party SFP's

Does Juniper subscribe to using the "Multisourcing Aggreement ( MSA ) for Small Form Pluggables? "

The finisar documenation says that are compatiable..

Does anyone have any experience with this.

Regards

Hi Andrew

Juniper accept several brands of SFP and not only Juniper "re-branded" ones:

They appear like that in "sh chassis hardware" :

...

    Xcvr 0       REV 01   740-011782   P9S0QJQ           SFP-SX
    Xcvr 1       O|       NON-JNPR     FNS1027R55A       SFP-SX

The N°0 is Juniper.

The N°1 is NON-JNPR but is Finisar brand.

This screen dump is from a router (m10i) and not an SRX but I assume it will be the same on SRX.

I also don't have any experience with CWDM interfaces so I assume this should be the main point of troubles.

CWDM Interfaces, are just SFP's tuned to different wavelengths..  They appear the same to the host equipment.     I know that 'another' brand spits and coughs if you try to insert a non 'branded' sfp into their kit.

At the worst, i'll have to put in some external transceivers, its not a show stopper
