    Hi there,

Has someone issues a shell newsyslog -f command?

    http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=newsyslog&sektion=8

-F "Force newsyslog to trim the logs, even if the trim conditions have not been met.  This option is useful for diagnosing system problems by providing you with fresh logs that contain only the problems."

The request system storage cleanup will tidy up the onboard flash by deleting old log files, crash dumps, and temporary files.

You can run the following before the actual cleanup to show what files will be removed/cleared:

    user@srx>request system storage cleanup dry-run

    hi dear

thanx for such good explanation,,,yet i had not used newsyslog -f command from shell....still i have lost logs.

system storage cleanup dry-run definitly provides only list of files to be deleted,,,still without dry-run it had shown me a list of files to be delected,,however there was no log file in that list......in tht case ,,, log files were not supposed to be deleted ?????m i right

What level of logging are you looking to syslog?

Can you run the following then look in the messages log again:

user@srx#set system syslog file messages any any
    user@srx#commit

Running "request system storage cleanup" will show you the list of files yes.  If there is no files listed by this then there is nothing to delete!
