Hi,

Would you please advice if there is a minimum software level that replacement cards being installed into the SRX5800 are required to be at. For example the customer's current release is 11.4R11, should a spare get delivered with either 9.0R1 or 13.3R2 software installed will the 11.4R11 SRX be able to communicate with those cards and correct the SW level?

   Are you talking about the RE card replacement? Only RE has the Junos installed on it. If yes, then it depends, if its cluster environment then, both cluster SRX nodes must be in same Junos version. If its stand alone SRX then it should work with available features.

Also, in SRX5800 if you use Next Generation (NG) card then there is a minimum supported Junos version. Here are the links taking about NG-cards and minimum supported Junos version.

My concern is irrespective of the card if i replace in SRX5800 chassis which has 11.4R11, whether all the cards will be compatible to work by default or software /firmware has to be modified.

specifically SPC, IOC,NPC cards...

If you are replacing SPC/IOC/NPC cards then there is no problem, no software update required.

If replacement card is RE then as SHKM said, you need to install appropriate software that meets your requirement.

one last question, Would you just confirm if I get a RE on 9.2 software, can I upgrade the unit directly to 11.4R11 or will I need to follow a specific software upgrade path i.e. 9.2 – Junos 10 – Junos 11?

More specifically, as you're in 9.2 the upgrade path should be

9.2  →  9.3 (EEOL release)  → (bypassing Releases 10.0 [EEOL] and 10.4 [EEOL]) → 11.4 (EEOL)

My SRX5800 current sw is 11.4R11.4

So if I get replacement RE with the sw version 9.2 then I would follow the upgrade path as you specified( 9.2->9.3->11.4).

What if I get RE with latest sw version 12.1?
