SRX110H2 OS and Firmware difference

‎09-28-2018 11:55 AM

Hello,

I have a Juniper SRX110H2-VA and have updated the device to JUNOS 12.3X48-D70.3 however I have noticed that the firmware on the VDSL PIC has not updated and is still reporting it is on version 2.10.0 with no newer version available to upgrade to.

My research has lead me to believe that there is a version 2.16.0 and possibly even 2.19.0 or newer however these do not seem to come packaged with the JUNOS update.

Please may someone provide access to the firmware to update the VDSL PIC.

Hi, Goose

The firmware file is available for donwloading starting with versions 15.1X49 onwards:

“Starting with Junos OS Release 15.51x49-D50, you can upgrade the VDSL PIC firmware on SRX Series devices. ”

     https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/topics/task/configuration/vdsl-pic-firmware-upgrad...

In the download section for the SRX345 (supporting 15.1X49 version), we can see a section for downloading this firmware. (see attached image)

However in the download section for the SRX110 this information is not available and you need to open a case with JTAC for obtaining the firmware file.

You will find the same answer via this post: https://forums.juniper.net/t5/SRX-Services-Gateway/SRX110H2-VA-VDSL-PIC-Firmware/td-p/321700

If you do not hold an active support contract with Juniper you may call the support line and ask for a courtesy case, maybe they will grant it for one time:

I hope the above info is helpful.

As mentioned in KB27918, If you do not see the firmware suite, contact JTAC for the firmware.

I have followed your link to Juniper support, rang them and asked for the firmware for this device, however i was greeted with a support agent telling me to go and buy a newer device, not even willing to discuss providing a firmware update.

Can anyone on this forum be of any more use? I'm not buying a newer model juniper device, just to get firmware access for this one, that is absolutely insane!.

Hi, Goose

Your SRX110H2-VA is EOL that is why that agent probably told you that.

However it is still supported.

Now is 1 mil dollar question:

Do you have support contract with Juniper for this device?

I do find support for SRX110H2-VA is still there as per SRX Series Hardware Dates & Milestones; provided it is covered under any contract.

Hi Goose

The firmware suite is usually packaged within a Junos image.

After you added software check packages if you have it.

Check the following link for upgrade steps.

https://kb.juniper.net/InfoCenter/index?page=content&id=KB27918

If you do not have firmware image in the package,  since you had a problem with JTAC you can do following:

  • Open another tech support case with JTAC.

If you get the same answer escalate the case to ATAC pointing the document I posted in my previous reply.

  • Contact your account manager in Juniper and explain your situation.
