Hi Jeremie,

Have you formatted this USB stick with FAT/FAT32 file system?

Refer https://kb.juniper.net/KB23882

Hello,

Try a different pen drive.  I had the same issue with a Sandisk Cruzer 16GB.

Hello Jrouzet,

Greetings!

Following points to remember:

  • Make sure to have a Formatted pen drive with FAT/FAT32 filesystem.
  • Only keep the Junos USB image on the pen drive and insert it to the chassis.[Note: there should be no other files].
  • Power cycle the device after inserting the USB to the port.

Also, I see from the logs you posted:

cpu:0-Trap cause = 2 (TLB miss (load or instr. fetch) - kernel mode)
badvaddr = 0xc, pc = 0x8018c028, ra = 0x8018d58c, sr = 0x5080ffa3
panic: trap
cpuid = 0
KDB: stack backtrace:
SP 0: not in kernel
uart_sab82532_class+0x0 (0,0,0,0) ra 0 sz 0
pid 2175, process: udev-sched-1.1

I see a panic trap on the device, Can you confirm manually if the device LED status is Green?

CLI commands to check the LED status:

https://kb.juniper.net/InfoCenter/index?page=content&id=KB25269

If the device status is NOT Green, then it's probably a file system failure or a Hardware failure.

Once confirmed, open a JTAC case to have a deeper investigation and resolve the issue.

I hope this helps. Please mark this post "Accept as solution" if this answers your query.

Kudos are always appreciated! Smiley Happy

Hi jrouzet,

Please make sure that you are the right USB for it. Also, format a USB storage device in MS-DOS format.

On SRX300, SRX320, SRX340, SRX345, SRX380, and SRX550M devices, frequent plug and play of USB keys is not supported. You must wait for the device node creation before removing the USB key.

If an installation error occurs, the LEDs turn red, which might indicate that the Junos OS image on the USB flash drive is corrupted. An installation error can also occur if the current configuration on the SRX Series device is not compatible with the new Junos OS version on the USB or if there is not enough space on the SRX Series device to install the image. You must have console access to the SRX Series device to troubleshoot an installation error.

https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/topics/topic-map/install-software-on-srx.html#id-i...

Can you check if the below KBs help:

https://kb.juniper.net/InfoCenter/index?page=content&id=KB29811

https://kb.juniper.net/InfoCenter/index?page=content&id=KB20046&act=login

Also, do you have an "auto-snapshot" set in your system section of the SRX? It should automatically repair the primary partition when it boots to the secondary partition by overwriting it. Then the next time the box reboots it should try booting from the primary again.

Hope this helps 🙂
