  • 1.  Using SNMP to monitor SPU; what are MIBS

    Posted 12-09-2016 13:15

    Hello,

I enabled SNMP on my SRX100H2.  Using this I can monitor interface bandwidth.  I would also like to monitor SPU, but that appears to not be available (per snmpwalk).  Is it possible for SNMP to report SPU usage?

Also, what are MIBS and why would I ever download juniper-mibs-12.3X48-D35.7-signed.tgz and if I did download this file, what would I do with it?

Also, what is the difference betweem "MIBS" and "Enterprise MIBS" (see attached)?

    Thank you,

    Chris

to find the OID of particular parameters you want to monitor on the SPU you can search the Juniper MIB explorer for those you don't see in a walk.

    https://contentapps.juniper.net/mib-explorer/

You would use the MIB files to import into your monitoring software package of choice.  These files tell the software the Juniper specific parameters avaialble beyond the common ones that everyone uses.

I am not sure what the difference is between normal and enterprise MIBs.

show snmp mib get 1.3.6.1.4.1.2636.3.39.1.12.1.1.1.4.0 this is the  OID for SPU usage.

    Suraj,

Thank you.  Indeed the SRX100 CLI shows the SPU usage when I issue your command.

Can you tell me why the following command, when run from another computer, shows many OIDs but does not show the SPU Usage OID?  I must have some fundamental misunderstanding about what it means to "walk" SNMP.

    snmpwalk -OS -v2c -c @Public 192.168.9.7

    Thanks again,

When you do a MIB walk you expect to get ~15000 OIDs and it will have the SPU CPU usage as ".1.3.6.1.4.1.2636.3.39.1.12.1.1.1.4" or "jnxJsSPUMonitoringCPUUsage".

You may have to wait till the SNMP MIB walk complete, which will take few minutes and it has to print ~15k lines.
