There are currently 10 interactive-commands.X.gz files. Some reason it needs to look at the more and more old interactive-commands log files, so where can be get and how? Any ideas?.

Hi Arix,

If you have an external syslog serve, then you can sent the logs to the syslog server. This is usually the best practice.

In case you don’t have any external syslog server, then you need to increase the number of files and file size to log more interactive-commands.

Thanks reply..

Is it possible to explain this (set system syslog file interactive-commands archive files 200)? what is 200? Where is this locating locally or remotely? and how to access to search with >sh log interactive-commands?

Current syslog has this one set system syslog file interactive-commands interactive-commands any ---->What does this say?  Is it as default to creating 10 files or?

Hi Arix,
<-- Is it possible to explain this (set system syslog file interactive-commands archive files 200)? what is 200? Where is this locating locally or remotely? and how to access to search with >sh log interactive-commands?
Jibut <--- by default if you do not specify any parameters in the syslog setting, then the number of files generated will be 10 and each file will have the size as shown below depending on the platform.

128 kilobytes (KB) for EX Series switches

1 megabyte (MB) for M Series, MX Series, and T Series routers

10 MB for TX Matrix or TX Matrix Plus routers

1 MB for the QFX Series

So based on the below configuration, we are logging the interactive commands in the file name interactive-command and since we haven’t mentioned any specific parameter, the default number of files generated is 10, ie interactive-commands , interactive-commands.0.gz….till . interactive-commands .9.gz. Each file will be of the size as mentioned above based on the platform. So in case of M series each file will be 1 MB

r2030# show system syslog file interactive-commands
interactive-commands any ; <<<< any indicates the level of syslog

Please refer the below link for more info

In order to increase the number of files and the file size then you need to specify it. This is done with the below config

labroot@jtac-mx480-r2030# set system syslog file interactive-commands archive files ?
Possible completions:
Number of files to be archived (1..1000)

labroot@jtac-mx480-r2030# set system syslog file interactive-commands archive size ?
Possible completions:
Size of files to be archived (65536..1073741824 bytes)

So in order to configure the number of files 15 and each file size of 1m you can do the following

set system syslog file interactive-commands archive files 15 size 1m

Also, these files are stored locally in /var/log directory.

To view the files you can do “show log interactive-commands”
