It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Festive trees, colorful lighting, and ornate ornaments are appearing everywhere. Decorations such as wreaths, stockings, gingerbread houses, and advent calendars are a common sight.
Advent calendars are used the world over to count down the days to Christmas. First used by German Lutherans to track the “advent” toward the most important holiday of the year, advent calendars have become a ubiquitous Christmas decoration in many households around the world.
Advent calendars normally take the form of a large rectangular card with number of windows. Each window represents a day in December leading up to Christmas. Each day one of these windows is opened to reveal a hidden treasure, be it a poem, story, image, toy, or, most common, a chocolate treat.
In a way, Juniper’s Junos OS is like an advent calendar.
The emergence of open-source toolkits, virtualization technologies, and DevOps practices has ushered in a new era of innovation. Service providers and enterprises alike now require a network operating system that is open, highly programmable, and feature a flexible architecture that responds to ever-shifting marketing conditions.
Junos OS was a major disruption to the networking industry when it was introduced 20 years ago, and it continues to be the industry’s leading OS today. Juniper has made it easier than ever to leverage the power of control, automation, and orchestration through direct access to the Junos OS control plane on Juniper routers and switches, whether via the Juniper Extension Toolkit (JET) or seamlessly through a wide range of open-source automation toolkits such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Snabb, and Salt. Junos also supports PyEZ, a micro framework for Python developed by Juniper, that enables developers to remotely customize and automate devices running Junos.
Just like an advent calendar, Junos provides a different window behind which is a new and wonderful surprise that gives you the power to truly automate your network environment.
