At Juniper Networks, our products are at the heart of some of the world’s largest Telco and SaaS Providers’ networks. But increasingly, our customers are not only demanding solutions for software-defined networking, but they’re now asking Juniper to help solve operational challenges and workload management in both Telco Cloud and Enterprise Hybrid Cloud environments. We continue to aim towards solving these problems and ultimately these may lead our solutions – especially OpenContrail – in some exciting new directions.
To that end, we're taking an important step by expanding our team to include a cloud visionary who not only understands the philosophy behind cloud computing, but has also helped refine the concept and put it in motion with some of our customers.
Today, Randy Bias is joining Juniper as Vice President of Technology of our Cloud Software products. His role will be to define and lead the company’s strategy for products and partnerships focused on agile cloud. As part of his charter, Randy will serve as an industry evangelist on these topics, and will carry Juniper’s vision to a variety of diverse cloud and open source communities in areas beyond traditional networking.
For more than 25 years, Randy has worked in networking, information security, systems engineering, storage, and automation. His early leading work in cloud computing and strong understanding of the landscape makes him a natural fit for Juniper. He has a deep understanding of the intersection where webscale computing, storage, networking, information security, and mass automation converge to create the third generation of IT infrastructure. A well-known advocate for hyper-scale clouds architected on AWS running cloud-native apps, he coined the pets vs. cattle meme – a direct attack on the traditional application development paradigm and its unsuitability in cloud computing architectures.
Randy’s OpenStack startup, Cloudscaling, was one of the original 25 founding companies who backed the OpenStack project, years before the OpenStack Foundation was formed. In the two years since the acquisition of Cloudscaling by EMC, Randy gained invaluable experience with enterprise customers, witnessing firsthand how customers think about their evaluation, planning, deployment and operation of cloud resources.
Randy joining our leadership team is about much more than OpenStack. It’s about expanding our comprehensive suite of solutions, powered by the right open source technologies, to solve customer problems. Please join me in welcoming Randy to the Juniper team, and stay tuned for innovative product developments around our evolving customer needs.
