ANNOUNCING NEW JNCP CERTIFICATIONS - we are pleased to announce three new support certifications

[ Edited ]
‎06-07-2013 08:22 AM

Education Services is pleased to announce the launch of its Juniper Networks Certified Support Professional certification tracks for the Service Provider, Enterprise, and Security segments.

About the new Support Certifications

The Juniper Networks Certification Program has defined a new certification track developed specifically for network professionals responsible for providing Level 2 and above support services, or any network professional responsible for advanced level troubleshooting.  There are three certifications in the Juniper Networks Certified Support track – all at the Professional level.  The three certifications are:

  • Juniper Networks Certified Support Professional, Service Provider Routing and Switching (JNCSP-SP)
  • Juniper Networks Certified Support Professional, Enterprise Routing and Switching (JNCSP-ENT)
  • Juniper Networks Certified Support Professional, Security (JNCSP-SEC)

These advanced certifications leverage the deep product knowledge represented in a JNCIP level certification, so require a JNCIP in the related track (SP, ENT or SEC).  In addition, each certification requires two exams, as detailed below:

  • Juniper Networks Certified Support Professional, Service Provider Routing and Switching (JNCSP-SP)
  1. JN0-690 Junos Troubleshooting – Available in PVUE testing centers June 28, 2013.
  2. JN0-692 Service Provider Routing and Switching Support, Professional (JNCSP-SP) - Available in PVUE testing centers June 28, 2013.
  • Juniper Networks Certified Support Professional, Enterprise Routing and Switching (JNCSP-ENT)
  1. JN0-690 Junos Troubleshooting – Available in PVUE testing centers June 28, 2013.
  2. JN0-694 Enterprise Routing and Switching Support, Professional (JNCSP-ENT) - Available in PVUE testing centers July 2013.
  • Juniper Networks Certified Support Professional, Security (JNCSP-SEC)
  1. JN0-690 Junos Troubleshooting – Available in PVUE testing centers June 28, 2013
  2. JN0-696 Security, Professional (JNCSP-SEC) - Available in PVUE testing centers July 2013.

As stated above, to earn a JNCSP certification you must have:

1)  A JNCIP certification in the related track

2)  Pass the JN0-690 Junos Troubleshooting exam

3)  Pass the related advanced troubleshooting exam

So yes - you must take and pass both exams to receive a JNCSP certification.

Hi, To add to the above question, If we write JNCSP-SEC exam, the existing JNCIP-SEC will get renewed automatically?

As I am holding currently JNCIP-SEC certification which is valid till 2014.

Please suggest!!

Praveen

Dear Praveen,

No - your JNCSP will not recertify the JNCIP.  We do not allow recertifications across tracks.

Dear Liz,

I have active  JNCIP-ENT certification. And as per Juniper certifications rules  it will be expire in Nov 2013.

And I am not sure JNCIE-ENT before its expire. So istead of JNCIE-ENT can I take JNCSP-ENT exam?

Can you guide me on this?

Best Regards,

Suresh

Suresh,

The JNCSP-ENT will not recertify the JNCIP-ENT.  We do not allow recertifications across tracks.  JN0-643 JNCIP-ENT exam to renew JNCIP-ENT if you do not plan to move up to JNCIE.

I can understand that SEC isn't always in line with ENT curriculum thus you can't renew across the different trains.

But how is it that the JNCSP-ENT can't renew JNCIP-ENT, what is the justification that the new JNCSP can't renew the JNCIP certs?

For those of us with multiple tracks means we will end spending more time attempting re-cert than actually moving forwards.

Richard.

I was reading the other day on this new track and was surprised that JNCIP is required.  After browsing the content of the topics covered I would have thought JNCIS would be the requirement - am I missing something?  Just curious as the requirements for a "new track" seem to be set quite high.

Many thanks,

Paul

Paul,

The JNCSP certifications represent an advanced level of knowledge/skills on the underlying technology with a "deep dive" into troubleshooting expertise.  We assess the advanced product/solution knowledge via the core cert tracks versus "retesting" for this in the Support exams/tracks.  To be a Professional level at troubleshooting you must have this advanced understanding of the core technology first.

Richard,

We discussed this issue extensively within out team.  Ultimately we determined that to ensure the value and integrity of the JNCIE, JNCIP and JNCSP we did not want to have the core tracks recertified by what is basically a boutique exam focused only on troubleshooting skills.  The troubleshooting exams are "mini" exams - limited questions focused on the troublshooting content.  We did not feel these were valid recerts for the very comprehensive JNCIE and JNCIP.

Yes - thank you very much for pointing that out.  We have revised the recertification policy for the JNCSP and JNCIP certifications to address concerns expressed here and in other forums.  Please see details here https://www.juniper.net/us/en/training/certification/news/2014/20140114-expanded-recertification.htm...
