New Service Provider Routing and Switching Exam - coming July 7, 2016!!

‎05-31-2016 06:59 AM

On July 7, 2016 the JN0-660 Service Provider Routing and Switching exam will be replaced with the new JN0-661 Service Provider Routing and Switching exam. This change reflects an update to the exam. While the exam objectives have been updated, there is no change to the recommended training courses to prepare for the JN0-661 Service Provider Routing and Switching exam.

Detailed exam information for the JN0-661 Service Provider Routing and Switching exam can be found at:

http://www.juniper.net/us/en/training/certification/certification-tracks/sp-routing-switching-track/

The JN0-660 Service Provider Routing and Switching exam will End of Life (EOL) on July 6, 2016. Candidates currently preparing for the existing JN0-660 Service Provider Routing and Switching exam should plan to take the exam at a Pearson VUE testing center prior to the EOL date.

Would you be able to provide a short list of what was added, dropped and modfied between the new objectives and the old?

The biggest change with the JN0-661 exam is that it does not include automation scripting items--Automation no longer appears in the topic list. Additionally, we felt that general MPLS concepts were sufficiently covered in the JNCIS-SP exam, so the JN0-661 includes items pertaining to more advanced MPLS concepts. The full objective list for each exam can be viewed at the links below.

HI,

So no automation/scripting questions in JNO-661?

I see new objectives added are mainly around EVPN:

> IPv6 Layer 3 VPNs
> VPLS Multihoming
> EVPN Multihoming
> BGP EVPN label distribution
> EVPNs

However, the JMV course does not cover EVPN.

Is there any material for EVPN that would be relevant?

Cheers,

Ashvin

Good place to start for EVPN is to download the Day One book.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the feedback. I have got the Day One book.

Just wanted to make sure that I have got all the examinable contents covered.

Feel free to share any other pointers that you have.

Cheers,

Ashvin

Have attempted to take the new JN0-661 ,but I can see new items for L2vpns that are not mentioned in the JMV study guide version 10.a.

Any recommendations for studying reference for the new exam specially L2 VPNs?

Thanks &Best Regards

John

Hey Staci!

Thanks for filtering out the updates to the exam. I am working with a combination of vSRX, vMX, and a few SRX210's to work through the case studies, but I am having some issues with pulling down the necessary gear for ATM & POS ports for the 7 router setup in the case studies.

Will the JNO-661 exam still have these port configurations on the exams? Without practical experience the best that I can do is drill myself on the different settings for each type of port and I wanted to ensure that I am not spending an excessive amount of time on these configurations (granted,  they may come in handy while out in the field).

Also, the JNCIP-SP study guide says that there is a lab as a part of the exam, but the website says that it's only multiple choice. Although it ultimately matters not, I wanted to ensure that I was aware of what I would be walking into prior to scheduling my exam.

Thank you for your help!

From your description, I assume you are talking about the original JNCIP-SP study guide by Reynolds from 2003.

https://www.juniper.net/assets/us/en/local/pdf/study-guide/study-guide-jncip.pdf

If so, this is from well before the current exam architecture and topic outlines.  That exam originally was a lab exam as was the JNCIE at the same time.  Since then these two labs were combined into one for the JNCIE and the JNCIP converted to a multiple choice test exam instead.

the topic lists have adjusted over the years as well, so the current list from the Juniper cert site is the one to use for preparation.

Here is a checklist I created for JN0-661 that other candidates may find helpful. The data is from the JN0-661 detailed exam objectives - http://www.juniper.net/us/en/training/certification/resources/jncipsp/
