in the cisco world, one can create a virtual interface ( int vlan 50 ), and assign an ip address to the vlan.  how in the juniper world would one assign an ip address to the vlan ?

i know how to go to a physical interface and assign units, and then nail ip address to the units within the physical interface.  I do not want to do this....looking to nail an ip address to a juniper vlan....independent of any physical interface, and eventually route.

    thanks

    Uh,

You mean how to configure a routed vlan interface ?

On the vlan defenition use the l3-interface vlan.<vlan-id> statement.

Then configure interface vlan unit <vlan-id> family inet <address>.

    Thanks so much!

No problem. You'll get the hang of it soon enough. Junos is cool!
