Hi Steve,

It depends what you mean by standalone use-case. If you mean to provision it without a Controller, then the answer is NO, the MP radios are disabled by default and can be enabled only by a system administrator using the MX.  The MP-82 is an indoor AP and it does support Mesh AP or wireless bridge configuration. However we need to use the CLI or RingMaster to configure an MP connection. And if installing the MP (including MP-82) as a Mesh AP in a WLAN Mesh or wireless bridge configuration, you must configuer the MP connection before deplying the MP in the final location. Please find the config guide here: https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/release-independent/wireless/information-products/topic-...

Just note that MPs do not support daisy-chain configurations, so do not connect one MP to another MP.

The only other scenario where I could imagine this AP as functioning standalone is in case of a "remote-ap" where the WLA provides service to authenticated clients for a certain duration of time when the WLC is not available. Although MP-82 might be configurable in "remote-ap" mode for remote-suite features, it's not meant for that purpose and doesn't support local switching this way. WLA321/322/522/532 can be used as remote-aps and support local switching.

Hope this helps. Please let me know.

Regards,
-r.
