Route Engine and PFE synchronization on MX

Hi everyone,

Eachtime Route engine gets updated ith new info  such as  new , better path, PFE is updated,  is there minimum time RE must wait before it updates PFE?

The reason I ask, is this:

Let's say we have a flapping route, which flaps each second,  does it mean RE is updating PFE each second assuming the default behavior?

Thanks and have a good day!!

Hi,

There is no wait time. Any such event that has to be updated to the PFE will be done immediately.

Yes, in case of a flapping route, RE keeps updating the PFE for every flap causing a route churn. You can verify this using "rtsockmon -t" on the RE shell which shows the updates between RE and PFE.

Hope this helps.

Thanks and Regards,

Short answer is yes.

Long answer is that PFE is updated each time the route becomes active (non martian, nexthop gets resolved, this route wins Preference contest, BFD Established if BFD configured etc)

Thx
