VMX install fails on "setup huge pages..."

‎06-22-2017 03:02 PM

I'm attempting to install a VMX image on a lab machine running

16.04.2 LTS (GNU/Linux 4.4.0-81-generic x86_64), which fails on the line "Setup huge pages to 8192". Based on other guidance I've done the following to try to correct:

set /proc/sys/vm/nr_hugepages to 8192

Added "KVM_HUGEPAGES=1" to /etc/default/qemu-kvm

Any other advice? This is a rather opaque error for me so I don't have much idea what else to do, unfortunately.

Fixed this one myself. The vmx.sh script apparently needs to run as root in order to mount a virtual filesystem "/HugePage_vPFE" in order to support huge pages.
