Use IPv6 Real-IP instead of IPv4 NAT-IP when connecting from IPv4 host to an IPv6 host

‎04-12-2018 10:24 PM

Elements:

  • Juniper vSRX
  • IPv4 host (Tool)
  • IPv6 host (Machine)

Configuration:

  • IPv4 host (Tool) is connected to an IPv4 interface in Juniper vSRX
  • IPv6 host (Machine) is connected to an interface in Juniper vSRX
  • Juniper is configured with NAT-PT to translate and enable IPv4 to IPv6 communication and vice versa

Requirement:

  • The IPv4 host (Tool) should be able to use the real IPv6 address of the IPv6 host (Machine) to communicate instead of using the NAT-IP (IPv4) of the IPv6 host (Machine)

Question:

  • Is this possible?
  • Is there a better way to do the translation to satisfy the requirement?

Tried Solutions:

  • DNS, but the IPv4 tool does not accept hostnames yet.

Hoping for your expert advice. If you need anything to make this more clear, kindly post a comment and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks.

I don't follow you logic flow.  If the tool is ipv4 only how would it make an ipv6 request?

If the tool is dual stack then why would you need the translation?
