vSRX 17.3 taking Boot time of around 10 -12 Minutes on RHEL Openstack

‎11-14-2017 03:36 AM

Hello,

I am trying to automate creation and configuration of Juniper SRX using API and currently i am using a vSRX 17.3 image snapshot ( only fxp0 config part of the snapshot to expose the netconf interface on bootup for configuration bu orchestrator). i am experiencing high boot time with the image. Its taking around 10 minutes to boot up and an additional 2-3 minutes for the interface to respond to ping and netconf requests.

Is there anyway to minimize the boot time. I see in the boot log that it gets stuck at Loading configuration for a long time. Previously i have used version 12 which used to boot up in 2 minutes for the same usecase. What is the default boot time of vSRX v17.3 and also are there any other recent versions which boots up fast?

If it helps any, I just timed one of my smaller config vSRX 17.3R1.10 VMs on ESXi6.5 w/ 2 vCPU and 4G RAM.

From power on to login prompt was 5 and a half minutes. It took another 4 and a half minutes or so for the ge- interfaces to come UP.

When can we anticipate the 18.2R release?

18.2R1 is expected end of June as 18.2 should arrive within Q2 2018.

Ask your local Juniper SE if you need a more exact date.

There are also details regarding boot time of vSRX in 18.2 which I cannot post on a public forum so please ask a Juniper SE for these.
