vSRX on KVM - FPC0 unresponsive, no interfaces

‎08-01-2017 07:09 AM

Trying to get vSRX working on KVM and my interfaces are not showing up. These are the messages in syslog:

Aug 1 13:45:25 chassisd[1314]: CHASSISD_IPC_WRITE_ERR_NULL_ARGS: FRU has no connection arguments fru_send_msg FWDD
Aug 1 13:50:25 chassisd[1314]: CHASSISD_FRU_UNRESPONSIVE: Error for FPC 0: unresponsive to attempts to start it; left it offline
Aug 1 13:50:25 chassisd[1314]: CHASSISD_FRU_OFFLINE_NOTICE: Taking FPC 0 offline: Error
Aug 1 13:50:25 chassisd[1314]: CHASSISD_SNMP_TRAP3: ENTITY trap generated: entStateOperDisabled (entPhysicalIndex 6, entStateAdmin 4, entStateAlarm 0)
Aug 1 13:50:25 chassisd[1314]: CHASSISD_IPC_WRITE_ERR_NULL_ARGS: FRU has no connection arguments fru_send_msg FWDD
Aug 1 13:50:25 chassisd[1314]: CHASSISD_SNMP_TRAP7: SNMP trap generated: Fru Failed (jnxFruContentsIndex 7, jnxFruL1Index 1, jnxFruL2Index 0, jnxFruL3Index 0, jnxFruName FPC: Virtual FPC @ 0/*/*, jnxFruType 3, jnxFruSlot 0)

'show chassis fpc pic-status' indicates the slot is offline. I am running:

Junos 15.1X49-D20.2

Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS

I have all my interfaces set up as 'virtio', per the documentation. Any ideas?

I realized that my version of Junos was way old, so now I am attempting to use 15.1X49-D100.6. When I start the VM, it boots into the underlying Wind River OS and never appears to start the vSRX installation. I can't seem to find much information on this out in the wild - has anyone else run into this before?

I have D90 and D100 on the Lab Server (EVE-NG, KVM and qemu) and do not have problems so far.

However D100 takes way longer to boot compared to D90.

VM falls in to WindRiver prompt sinis not booted up.

You can check /var/log/libvirt/qemu/vjunos0.log for any boot up errors  and check virsh dumpxml vjunos0 for the resources details requested.
